The tech giants Huawei and Sharp have announced a new long-term global patent cross-licensing agreement, focusing on Cellular Standard Essential Patents, including 4G and 5G. The agreement was reached through amicable discussions, with both companies recognizing the importance of intellectual property and promoting standardization collaboration.

Alan Fan, Head of Huawei’s Intellectual Property Department, expressed his delight at the agreement, stating that it represents mutual recognition of intellectual property and promotes collaboration in developing advanced technical standards. Fan emphasized that these standards enhance user experience, promote competition, and reduce device and service costs.

Mototaka Taneya, Executive Managing Officer, Chief Technical Officer, and Head of R&D at Sharp, also expressed satisfaction with the agreement. He highlighted that the agreement was reached under fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory conditions, reflecting the high value both parties place on each other’s intellectual property.
