Dell, HPE, and Lenovo to Offer NVIDIA’s AI-Ready Ethernet Networking Platform

NVIDIA has announced a collaboration with Dell Technologies, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and Lenovo to integrate Spectrum-X Ethernet networking technologies for AI into their server lineups, providing enterprises with the necessary tools to transform their businesses with generative AI.

nVidia has made an exciting announcement today, revealing that Dell Technologies, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and Lenovo will be the first to integrate NVIDIA Spectrum-X Ethernet networking technologies for AI into their server lineups. This move aims to help enterprise customers accelerate generative AI workloads.

Spectrum-X is specifically designed for generative AI, offering a new class of Ethernet networking that delivers 1.6 times higher networking performance for AI communication compared to traditional Ethernet products. By combining Spectrum-X with NVIDIA Tensor Core GPUs, NVIDIA AI Enterprise software, and NVIDIA AI Workbench software, the new systems from these top system makers will provide enterprises with the necessary tools to transform their businesses with generative AI.

Jensen Huang, the founder and CEO of NVIDIA, emphasized the significance of accelerated networking in driving the transition to the era of generative AI. He stated, “Generative AI and accelerated computing are driving a generational transition as enterprises upgrade their data centers to serve these workloads.”

The collaboration between Dell Technologies and NVIDIA aims to provide customers with the infrastructure and software required to extract intelligence quickly and securely from their data. Michael Dell, Chairman and CEO of Dell Technologies, highlighted the importance of accelerated computing and networking in meeting the demands of large language models and generative AI applications.

Antonio Neri, President and CEO of HPE, acknowledged that generative AI will undoubtedly drive innovation across multiple industries. He stressed the need for a fundamentally different architecture to support these powerful new applications. Through their partnership with NVIDIA, HPE aims to build systems with the necessary power, efficiency, and scalability to support generative AI.

Lenovo’s Chairman and CEO, Yuanqing Yang, also recognized the transformative potential of generative AI. He emphasized the importance of efficient and accelerated systems with the right networking, computing, and software capabilities to power modern AI applications. Lenovo is working closely with NVIDIA to develop such systems.

Spectrum-X is a networking solution purpose-built to accelerate AI workloads. It combines the high performance of the Spectrum-4 Ethernet switch, the NVIDIA BlueField-3 SuperNIC for network acceleration, and acceleration software. The Spectrum-4 Ethernet switch is the world’s first 51Tb/sec switch for AI, offering effective data throughput at scale while minimizing network congestion. Its intelligent routing technology ensures maximum utilization of network infrastructure.

The BlueField-3 SuperNICs are designed for network-intensive, massively parallel computing. They provide up to 400 Gb/s RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE) network connectivity between GPU servers, boosting performance for AI training and inference traffic. These SuperNICs also enable secure, multi-tenant data center environments, ensuring deterministic and isolated performance between tenant jobs.

The acceleration software powering Spectrum-X includes NVIDIA software development kits such as Cumulus Linux, Pure SONiC, and NetQ. These software kits drive the platform’s breakthrough performance. Additionally, the NVIDIA DOCA software framework, at the core of BlueField, further enhances acceleration capabilities.

To support the deployment of generative AI at scale, NVIDIA offers AI Enterprise frameworks, pretrained models, and development tools. These tools ensure secure, stable, and supported production AI. NVIDIA AI Workbench allows developers to create, test, and customize pretrained generative AI models on a PC or workstation, with the ability to scale them to any data center or cloud environment.

NVIDIA’s Spectrum-X also powers the NVIDIA Israel-1 supercomputer, which serves as a reference architecture for next-generation AI systems. Developed in collaboration with Dell Technologies, the Israel-1 supercomputer utilizes Dell PowerEdge XE9680 servers equipped with the NVIDIA HGX H100 eight-GPU platform, BlueField-3 DPUs, SuperNICs, and Spectrum-4 switches.

The new systems from Dell, HPE, and Lenovo featuring the complete NVIDIA AI stack are expected to be available in the first quarter of next year. This collaboration marks an important step in advancing generative AI and providing enterprises with the necessary tools to drive innovation and transformation.
