SK hynix Inc. has announced the commercialization of their LPDDR5T, the world's fastest DRAM for mobile with 9.6 Gbps speed, which has been verified by Qualcomm Technologies for their Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform, and offers 77 GB/s data processing and low power consumption.
- The LPDDR5T is the fastest DRAM for mobile, boasting an impressive speed of 9.6 Gbps
- It has been validated by Qualcomm Technologies, confirming that the LPDDR5T is compatible with their new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform
- It operates at the lowest voltage standards (1.01~1.12 V) set by the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC)
SK hynix Inc. has made an exciting announcement today regarding the commercialization of their latest innovation, the LPDDR5T (Low Power Double Data Rate 5 Turbo). This DRAM for mobile boasts an impressive speed of 9.6 Gbps, making it the fastest in the world. What’s even more remarkable is that SK hynix has received validation from Qualcomm Technologies, confirming that the LPDDR5T is compatible with their new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform. This marks a significant milestone as it is the first time such a product has been verified by a leading U.S. company.
The LPDDR5T underwent a thorough compatibility validation process with Qualcomm Technologies, with support from the wireless telecommunication giant and other major mobile AP providers. With this successful validation, SK hynix anticipates a rapid adoption of the LPDDR5T across the industry. In fact, the company plans to offer a 16 GB-capacity product, which combines multiple single LPDDR5T chips, capable of processing data at a staggering speed of 77 GB per second. To put that into perspective, it can process the equivalent of 15 Full-HD movies in just one second.
In addition to its impressive speed, the LPDDR5T also excels in power consumption. It operates at the lowest voltage standards (1.01~1.12 V) set by the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC). This achievement is made possible by SK hynix’s implementation of the HKMG (High-K Metal Gate) process, which significantly improves both speed and power efficiency. With this technology, SK hynix expects the LPDDR5T to capture a significant share of the market even before the introduction of the next-generation LPDDR6.
Ziad Asghar, Senior Vice President of Product Management at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration between Qualcomm and SK hynix. He highlighted the exciting possibilities that arise from pairing the fastest mobile memory with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon mobile platform, enabling on-device, ultra-personalized AI experiences such as AI virtual assistants for smartphone users.
Sungsoo Ryu, head of DRAM Product Planning at SK hynix, shared his excitement about meeting customers’ demands for high-performance mobile DRAM with the introduction of the LPDDR5T. Ryu emphasized the increasing role of smartphones as the primary devices where AI technologies are fully integrated, and he believes that excellent mobile DRAM will continue to enhance smartphone functions. SK hynix is committed to further strengthening its collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies to drive innovation in the industry.
