Boasting an impressive 10 disks, each with a capacity of 2.4 TB, the Exos X24 sets a new standard for density in hard drives. This breakthrough offering is specifically designed to cater to the needs of hyperscale customers and enterprises with scale-out data centers, providing them with an industry-leading total cost of ownership (TCO).
The 24 TB Exos X24, based on conventional magnetic recording (CMR) technology, not only delivers exceptional capacity but also offers high performance and enterprise-class reliability. However, Seagate recognizes the diverse requirements of its customers and continues to provide limited cloud customers with an alternative configuration – the shingled magnetic recording (SMR) Exos X24, which can reach an impressive capacity of up to 28 TB.
The Exos X24 is purpose-built for hyperscale environments, prioritizing maximum storage capacity and rack-space efficiency. Featuring a helium 3.5-inch form factor and spinning at 7200 RPM, this nearline drive supports both SATA and SAS interfaces. One notable feature is its enhanced caching capability, which outperforms solutions that solely rely on read or write caching by up to three times. Additionally, the Exos X24 delivers an increased sustained data rate (SDR) of up to 285 MB/s and excels in power efficiency, maintaining a high IOPS/Watt ratio. With a remarkable meantime between failures (MTBF) rating of 2.5 million hours, this drive ensures enterprise-class reliability.
Security is a top priority for Seagate, and the Exos X24 incorporates Seagate Secure encryption technology. This includes support for self-encrypting drives (SED), SED-FIPS, and instant secure erase (ISE), providing robust protection for sensitive data. To further instill confidence in its product, Seagate offers a 5-year limited warranty with the Exos X24.
While the qualification drives of the Exos X24 are already being shipped to key customers, the production drives are set to be available for channel distribution in December.
