Intel has released a significant driver update that brings notable performance improvements to Starfield, a highly popular game. Initially, Intel faced challenges with Arc GPU support for Starfield, leading to doubts about the GPU architecture’s capability to handle the game. However, Intel has been steadily addressing bugs and the latest Starfield update includes specific optimizations for Arc GPUs. Combined with the recent driver release, which reportedly delivers performance gains exceeding 100%, this update holds great significance.
The new Arc & Iris Graphics 31.0.101.4887 GPU driver does not classify Starfield as a “Game On” title, which is typically reserved for fully optimized games. Instead, Intel mentions optimizations targeted at 1080p and 1440p gaming profiles with high-quality presets. It is reported that the game now runs 117% smoother at 1080p Ultra settings and a remarkable 149% faster at 1440p with high settings. These improvements are indeed substantial.
In addition, this driver update includes official support for the Arc A580 graphics card. We previously covered this card extensively, as all indications now point to an imminent launch. Despite being announced over a year ago, Intel had not yet released it to the market. However, with the GPU now integrated into the driver, all rumors about its cancellation can be conclusively dispelled.
