AMD AM4 motherboards continue to receive BIOS updates, even after 6 years since their launch. This was recently discovered in a Reddit discussion where users were pleasantly surprised to find ongoing support for their motherboards. Major manufacturers have indeed released updates in the past few months, including the latest AGESA firmware update and security enhancements.

While AMD 300 series motherboards may not be the most advanced platforms anymore, they still offer the potential for users to upgrade their older Ryzen CPUs with the 5000X3D series CPUs, which can greatly enhance gaming performance. The latest addition to this series, the Ryzen 5 5600X3D CPU with 3D V-Cache, was launched this year.

On the other hand, Intel’s 300 series platform, released in 2017, has not received any updates since 2021. Motherboard manufacturers have ceased providing optimizations and security patches, as there is no need for new CPU support. Intel has moved on from the LGA1151v2 socket to LGA1200 and later LGA-1700. The latter will receive its final update this month before being phased out by LGA1851 next year.
