AMD has released the Radeon RX 7900M, their most powerful mobile GPU designed specifically for gaming laptops, featuring 4608 Stream Processors, 16GB GDDR6 memory, and a Total Graphics Power of up to 180W, 7% faster than the RTX 4080 Laptop GPU.
- 16GB GDDR6 memory capacity
- Integration of the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D processor
- Total Graphics Power (TGP) of up to 180W
AMD has just launched its latest mobile GPU, the Radeon RX 7900M, which is their most powerful graphics processor designed specifically for gaming Laptops. This release introduces the Navi 31 GPU with 4608 Stream Processors for mobile graphics. But what really sets this GPU apart is its impressive 16GB GDDR6 memory capacity, making it a game-changer for AMD in the gaming mobile GPU market.
The first laptop to showcase the RX 7900M is the Dell Alienware m18 R1, which already features the Radeon RX 7600M XT. However, what makes this laptop stand out is its integration of the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D processor. This flagship 16-core Zen4 mobile chip, based on desktop Raphael silicon with 3D V-Cache, combined with the RX 7900M GPU, promises to elevate AMD’s performance in enthusiast gaming benchmarks.
With a Total Graphics Power (TGP) of up to 180W, the RX 7900M sets a new standard in mobile graphics. In comparison, the RTX 40 series from competitors reaches a maximum of 150W (175W with Dynamic Boost). It’s evident that AMD is positioning itself to compete with the most powerful gaming GPUs on the market. It’s worth noting that Dell states the GPU’s TGP as 160W but can be pushed up to 200W with SmartShift Max technology.
According to AMD, the RX 7900M is on average 7% faster than the RTX 4080 Laptop GPU at a resolution of 1440p. The system featuring this GPU is priced at $2,800, which may seem high but is expected considering the investment required for RTX 4080 laptops.
As is typical with AMD Radeon releases for mobile, there may be questions about the availability of this GPU in other devices. AMD usually partners with select companies and specific regions. While there have been few announcements regarding new laptops featuring the RX 7600M XT, it has garnered more attention than the elusive RX 6700M. Therefore, the RX 7900M may remain a niche product.
AMD has made the RX 7900M available on the Dell website, but there are currently no reviews or review embargoes in place.

TGP: TGP is the acronym for Total Graphic Power and is understood in only one way: the consumption of the GPU and its entire PCB, but without its cooling and lighting system. Formerly the TGP was called Total Board Power, but this parameter changed its definition for what was discussed just below. In other words, the TBP referred to the total peak consumption of the graphics card itself, with all its dissipation systems and LEDs included. Therefore, TGP has ended up being more specific, being a value that makes more reference to the card itself.
