  • Activision had prior knowledge of the device and its active development.
  • Switch 2 is said to offer performance on par with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
  • Nintendo has been actively collaborating with major publishers like Activision to prepare for the upcoming Switch generation.

Activision was recently briefed on Nintendo’s next-generation console, according to internal emails that have been made public in the ongoing FTC vs. Microsoft case. While the emails contain redactions and don’t provide comprehensive details about the Switch 2 specifications, they do confirm that Activision had prior knowledge of the device and its active development.

The accompanying documents in these emails shed some light on the capabilities of the Switch 2. It is said to offer performance on par with the Playstation 4 and XBOX One, which opens up opportunities for Activision to develop more sophisticated games that are already thriving on those consoles.

The meeting between Activision and Nintendo took place in December of the previous year, and it’s important to note that the specifications and performance targets may have changed since then. However, rumors suggest that the next-generation console could feature 1280 nVidia CUDA cores built on the Ampere architecture, which could enable higher performance through DLSS upscaling technology.

These insights indicate that Nintendo has been actively collaborating with major publishers like Activision to prepare for the upcoming Switch generation. There are even reports suggesting a planned release in 2024. It’s expected that this new console will retain an LCD screen and continue to support cartridge slots for physical game releases.
