On launch day, Galax has made a surprising move by selling its RTX 4070 for 999 NZD, which is actually cheaper than the newly released RX 7800 XT from AMD. This unexpected local promotion in New Zealand has caught the attention of gamers, who now have a tough decision to make. While the Radeon cards have just hit the market, it seems that some sellers have enough stock of the RTX 4070 to offer them at a lower price.
The GALAX RTX 4070 OC X2 is not a premium model, but rather the closest option the company has to offer at the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP). This particular model, equipped with dual fans, has been reduced to 999 NZD with taxes, making it slightly cheaper than the Radeon RX 7800 XT available at the same store.
Interestingly, our reader tip suggests that the price drop occurred just an hour before the release of the Radeon card. While the cheapest models of the Radeon RX 7800 XT are priced around $1,018.99, which is similar to some premium RX 7700 XT cards, none of the major retailers we checked have adjusted the pricing for the RTX 4070. Therefore, it seems that this particular offer from PB Tech is an outlier and does not reflect the global market.
It’s worth noting that New Zealand and Australia typically experience higher prices during product launches. However, even with this context, we couldn’t find the RX 7800 XT at a lower price, and PB Tech happens to be one of the largest retailers in the country.
At this stage, gamers should consider how well the Radeon RX 7800 XT performs and whether it can serve as a viable alternative to the RTX 4070 at its lower price point. It’s important to keep in mind that nVidia may eventually adjust the price of their card, just as they did with the RTX 4060 TI 16GB, which is now competing with the RX 7700 XT.
