Microsoft’s plans for the future of XBOX have been leaked through documents from the ongoing FTC vs. Microsoft case. The documents reveal details about an upcoming console refresh as well as insights into the next-generation Xbox.

Starting with the refresh, the Xbox Series X, codenamed “Brooklin,” is set to launch in October 2024. It will feature a 6nm die shrink of the existing APU with Zen2/RDNA2 architecture, aiming to deliver 4K gaming. The console will also come with enhanced on-board Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and a fresh rounded design. Rumors suggest that it will include a USB Type-C connector at the front.

Simultaneously, the Xbox Series S, codenamed “Ellewood,” will also undergo a refresh. While the design will remain the same, Microsoft plans to introduce upgrades such as an improved controller and support for new connectivity options like Wi-Fi 6E and BT 5.2.

Microsoft is focused on specific improvements for the Brooklin refresh. The power supply unit (PSU) power has been reduced by 15%, and a new low-power stage has been introduced, significantly reducing standby mode power consumption. The company aims to maintain the same price point for both consoles, with the Brooklin experience priced at $499 and featuring upgraded storage of 2TB, while the Ellewood console will continue to be priced at $299.

Moving on to the next-generation Xbox, leaked details suggest that it may feature either an ARM64 or AMD64-based CPU, with the latter potentially being Zen6. The roadmap included in the leaked presentation indicates that a decision is pending on which architecture to choose.

In terms of graphics, the next-gen Xbox is expected to incorporate an AMD IP based on Navi 5 (RDNA5). Microsoft may collaborate with AMD to design a chip or utilize their license for Navi 5 graphics. Additionally, the GPU should support Next-Gen DirectX Raytracing, indicating an updated version of the existing DXR implementation.
