Kioxia Corporation, a important player in the memory solutions industry, has just announced the sampling of their latest embedded flash memory products for consumer applications. These new products comply with the JEDEC e-MMC Ver. 5.1 standard and offer higher performance compared to their predecessors. By integrating an updated version of their BiCS FLASH 3D flash memory and a controller into a single package, Kioxia aims to reduce the workload on processors and enhance user convenience.
The new lineup includes both 64GB and 128GB options, catering to the evolving needs of the market. While the industry is gradually shifting towards Universal Flash Storage (UFS), there are still scenarios where e-MMC remains relevant. This includes consumer devices with moderate storage requirements like Tablets, personal computers, point of sale devices, portable handheld gadgets, smart TVs, and smart NICs. Kioxia recognizes this demand and is committed to maintaining its position as a market leader by offering a diverse range of high-performance products for these applications.
What sets these new Kioxia devices apart is their remarkable improvement in performance metrics. Sequential and random write speeds have been boosted by approximately 2.5 times compared to the previous generation, while random read performance sees an impressive 2.7 times improvement. Moreover, the terabytes written (TBW) metric has been enhanced by approximately 3.3 times over the previous generation, thanks to an optimized area setting for the entire e-MMC area.
Tech enthusiasts and industry insiders will be pleased to know that Kioxia is already in the process of sampling their next-generation e-MMC devices. Mass production is expected to commence in the spring of 2024, signaling the company’s commitment to staying at the forefront of innovation in memory solutions. With their focus on delivering products and expanding options for various applications, Kioxia is poised to maintain its stronghold in the market.
