ASUS ceases production of ROG Z790 APEX overclocking motherboard, teases imminent successor.

ASUS is gearing up to release an updated version of its premium overclocking motherboard, the ROG Z790 APEX. Tony Yu, the General Manager of Asus China, confirmed this news in a recent video addressing questions from ASUS fans. The new boards will be part of the Z790 lineup refresh and will align with Intel’s upcoming Raptor Lake Refresh Core series.

The ROG Z790 APEX motherboard, initially launched in November last year, was priced at $699. It offered impressive features such as 24 power supply modules, dual 8Pin power connectors for extreme overclocking with Core processors, AI-driven overclocking technology, and support for DDR5 memory at speeds exceeding 8000 MT/s. Additionally, it provided multiple M.2 interfaces, a 2.5G network card, WiFi 6E, USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-C connectivity, and 60W QC 4+ fast charging.

In December, the ROG APEX motherboard set a world record CPU frequency of 9008.82MHz using an Intel i9-13900K processor. With the upcoming generation of Intel Core processors, ASUS and overclocking enthusiasts can expect even higher frequencies.

Tony also hinted at a possible new design from ASUS featuring connectors on the other side. While this feature may not be included in the APEX series, it could be introduced in a new ROG model or a variant of an existing platform.

M.2: M.2, also known as Next Generation Form Factor (NGFF), is a computer expansion card format that is designed to replace the outdated mSATA standard.
