Assassin's Creed Mirage takes players back to the Middle East and the bustling city of Baghdad, where they join the ranks of the Hidden Ones and must unravel a complex web of conspiracy and secrets through immersive gameplay and full Arabic localization.
- Full localization in Arabic
- Investigative aspect of the game
- Deliberate and wide sword and dagger attacks
Assassin’s Creed Mirage, set to release on October 5, marks a return to the series’ origins. The game takes us back to the Middle East, specifically the bustling city of Baghdad, where we join the ranks of the Hidden Ones. These Hidden Ones, essentially classic Assassins in all but name, operate from secret bureaus and are known for their iconic white robes. In a first for the series, the game features full localization in Arabic, allowing players to fully immerse themselves in the world.
But it’s not just the setting and story that harken back to the series’ roots; Assassin’s Creed Mirage captures the essence of the original games through its gameplay. From small details like pickpocketing and using explosive noisemakers, to larger structural elements like tense missions and elaborate assassinations, the game truly makes you feel like a true Assassin.
One of the standout features is the investigative aspect of the game. Players must gather information about their targets before launching into assassinations, just like in the very first Assassin’s Creed. However, investigations in Mirage are more involved and integral to the protagonist Basim’s journey. In a recent hands-on experience, we witnessed Basim helping out an old friend by recovering confiscated goods from a heavily guarded warehouse. This favor leads to an invitation to The Grand Auction, a gathering of Baghdad’s wealthiest citizens where Basim’s real target, known as the Treasurer, awaits.
Combat in Assassin’s Creed Mirage differs from recent entries in the series. Basim’s sword and dagger attacks are deliberate and wide, but leave him vulnerable to counterattacks from agile guards. Managing stamina becomes crucial, as both attacking and dodging drain it. Parrying can restore some stamina, adding a layer of strategy to combat encounters.
The game also introduces Black Box missions, which are large-scale assassinations set in the sprawling Bazaar of Baghdad. Players must navigate this labyrinthine environment, eavesdropping on conversations and gathering information to identify the Treasurer. The mission culminates in a tense performance of trickery and a bloody finale, the details of which we won’t spoil here.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage offers a rich and complex web of conspiracy and secrets for players to unravel. From the bustling streets of Baghdad to the heart of its corrupt underbelly, the game provides a diverse and immersive experience. Whether you’re a longtime fan of the series or new to the franchise, Assassin’s Creed Mirage promises to deliver a thrilling adventure when it launches on October 5 for Playstation 5, Playstation 4, XBOX Series X|S, XBOX One, PC, and Amazon Luna. Plus, it will be available on day one with a Ubisoft+ subscription.
