In terms of graphics performance, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and the Geforce RTX 4090 deliver similar results in Starfield. Despite the $600 price difference, these GPUs perform on par with each other. However, when paired with the Radeon RX 7900 XTX, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D falls behind Intel’s Core i5-13600K. Even the more powerful Ryzen 9 7950X3D performs at the same level as the Core i5-12600K. It seems that AMD’s CPUs are struggling to keep up with their Intel counterparts in this particular game.
The clear winner in terms of CPU performance is Intel’s Core i9-13900K. With a lead of over 26% against the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, it stands as the fastest CPU option currently available. Gamers who prioritize high-performance processing should definitely consider this Intel chip.
The launch of AMD’s Zen 4 X3D CPUs was not without its issues. Initially, there were scheduler problems where gaming performance was negatively affected due to the utilization of threads from both CCDs (V-Cache and planar). However, it was expected that a game developed by an AMD partner several months after the X3D release would be well-optimized for these chips. Unfortunately, this does not seem to be the case for the 5800X3D and 7800X3D models, as they still leave much to be desired in terms of performance.
Interestingly, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D faced a different issue in Starfield. It was discovered that the XBOX Game Bar failed to detect the game as a game and required manual addition. This manual adjustment improved performance on the multi-die X3D chips, including the 7950X3D.
