Lenovo is set to release its highly anticipated Legion Go handheld gaming device next month, according to leaked information from Windows Report. The company is expected to make an official announcement on September 1st, possibly coinciding with the start of IFA 2023. The Legion Go will feature the powerful AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, specifically designed for gaming consoles. With 8 Zen4 cores and 12 RDNA3 Compute Units, this APU is expected to deliver impressive performance.

One notable upgrade in the Legion Go is its faster memory compared to its competitor, the ASUS ROG Ally. While the Ally features 16GB LPDDR5-6400 memory, the Legion Go will come equipped with LPDDR5X-7500 memory. This boost in memory speed is expected to positively impact gaming performance, especially in devices without discrete graphics.

The Legion Go will also sport an impressive 8.8-inch screen with a resolution of 2560×1600 and a 144Hz Refresh Rate. This exceeds the screen specifications of the ROG Ally, which has a resolution of 1920×1080 at 120Hz. The display is reported to be an IPS panel with 97% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage and a Peak Brightness of 500 nits.

To support the larger screen and ensure longer gaming sessions, the Legion Go will feature a 49.2 WH battery, surpassing the capacities of both the Ally and Valve’s Steam Deck">Steam Deck. Surprisingly, despite the larger battery, the weight of the device will only increase by 32 grams compared to the Ally when the controllers are not attached. However, when using the detachable Nintendo Switch joy-con-like controllers, the weight will reach 854 grams.

In terms of pricing, the Legion Go is expected to be priced at €799 in the EU and $799 in the US. This puts it in direct competition with the ROG Ally, which is priced similarly in the EU but comes with a $100 price increase in the US. Lenovo is also offering additional accessories, such as Legion Glasses for $499/€499 and Legion E510 7.1 RGB Gaming In-Ear headphones for an extra €49.

Overall, Lenovo aims to compete with the Ally by offering similar pricing, improved specifications, and additional features. However, some gamers may still prefer the lighter Ally without removable controllers. The Legion Go is set to be released in October 2023.

Technology Explained

APU: An APU, or Accelerated Processing Unit, is a type of processor that combines a CPU and a GPU on a single chip. This type of processor is becoming increasingly popular in the computer industry due to its ability to provide both computing and graphics processing power in a single package. APUs are used in a variety of applications, from gaming PCs to high-end workstations. They are also used in embedded systems, such as those found in smartphones and tablets. The combination of CPU and GPU on a single chip allows for more efficient power consumption and better performance than traditional CPUs. Additionally, APUs are often used in conjunction with other components, such as RAM and storage, to create powerful and efficient systems.

Compute Units: Compute Units (CUs) are a type of processor technology used in the computer industry. They are designed to provide high-performance computing capabilities for a variety of applications. CUs are typically used in graphics processing units (GPUs) and are responsible for the majority of the processing power in modern gaming systems. CUs are also used in other areas of the computer industry, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analysis. CUs are designed to be highly efficient and can provide significant performance gains over traditional CPUs. They are also capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously, making them ideal for applications that require high levels of parallel processing.

Peak Brightness: Peak Brightness is a technology that allows monitors to produce very bright images, with more accuracy and contrast than ever before. It is achieved by setting the maximum display level of the monitor to a very high level, creating a more vibrant and realistic picture. In the computer industry, Peak Brightness is mostly used for gaming, professional graphic design, and video production purposes. This is especially helpful when the colors displayed on the monitor need to be exact, such as when creating a logo or fine-tuning artwork for a video game. Peak Brightness also helps in providing a realistic display of the visuals that are being seen on the monitor, making it easier for the user to identify small details. This technology enhances the clarity of the display and brings out the most subtle details in the visuals, allowing the user to experience more immersive visuals than ever before.

Steam Deck: Steam Deck is a revolutionary technology that has revolutionized the computer industry. It is a cloud-based platform that allows users to access their applications and games from any device, anywhere in the world.
